We raised $31,000 thanks to YOU!!!

 

There is a year-round emergency shelter on the North Shore to assist homeless individuals in the community.  The City of North Vancouver provided the property at 705 West Second (and Bewicke).  Lookout Emergency Aid Society’s North Shore Shelter is up and running, thanks to the commitment, perseverance and determination of many people. 

Now that the shelter has become a reality, funds are required for operating expenses, to keep the shelter open 24/7. Transition housing operates 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year. Both levels of government and  Lookout have been providing funds. To keep the emergency shelter open 24 hours a day, not just nights, as is currently the case, we must have more operating expenses.

 

Soroptimist International of North & West Vancouver, a service organization of business and professional women, has embraced the North Shore shelter as a major fundraiser. In 2004 the North and West Vancouver Soroptimists raised just over $21,000 for the North Shore Shelter. This donation was the result of the Soroptimists’ 4th annual gala dinner and dance where many community members came out to support the plight of the homeless. The “Treasure Chest of Hope and Opportunity” dinner dance will be held again this fall, in support of the North Shore Shelter. Donations from this event will assist homeless people in our community to leave the streets and work toward economic and social stability.

 

The members of Soroptimist International of North and West Vancouver invite you to support this cause and enjoy an evening of sumptuous food, entertaining music, raffles, silent and live auctions.  Please join us as a corporate sponsor, individual community member, or make your presence known through donating to this worthwhile cause.
